ACM40322 Certificate IV in Animal Behaviour and Training is Australia's premier qualification for aspiring dog trainers and those passionate about animal behaviour. This comprehensive program provides a blend of both online learning and hands-on practical training with industry experts, ensuring students are well-equipped with the knowledge and skills essential for success in the field.
 

The curriculum delves deep into understanding animal behaviour, teaching students how to identify behaviours, interact safely with animals, and even evaluate and condition behavioural responses.Moreover, the course places a significant emphasis on ensuring the welfare and well-being of animals,imparting knowledge on enrichment strategies, welfare assessment, and promoting positive well-being.To ensure compliance and safety in the animal industry, students will also gain insights into best practices, industry compliance, and maintaining workplace health and safety.
 

The practical aspect of this course provides a hands-on experience that's second to none. Students get to actively engage in animal behaviour management and training, conduct group training sessions for animal owners, and manage complex behavioural scenarios. They will also be equipped to conduct detailed behavioural assessments and provide basic first aid to animals. This holistic training approach ensures that graduates are not only knowledgeable but also confident and competent in their roles as animal trainers or behaviourists.

To be eligible for this course, you must:
Be at least 18 years old
Completed Year 10 or Equivalent
Access to a computer, laptop or tablet
Internet access and email address
Proficiency in speaking and writing in English
Access to dogs for training
Physically capable of restraining animals, handling animal feed and standing for extended periods of time

Course Delivery
Students have up to 24 months to complete the course. However, many students are able to complete their study within this time frame based upon the amount of hours dedicated to study each week.

The course program is taught using a blended approach (Online & Practical).

Online
The course is delivered online which means students are not required to attend classes or lectures. Students will receive access to our 'Learning Portal' where they will find the course materials, interactive learning materials, videos and assessments. In addition, students will also receive a hard copy of the Learner Resource.

While studying online, students will have access to our teaching support team via email, online chat or phone. Our teaching team will help support and guide students every step on their journey.

Practical Training
The practical training (hands-on) is completed at the Dog Training Facility under the guidance and support of our
teachers and dog trainers for 2-weeks full time. This ensures the student is taught the hands-on skills required to become a qualified dog trainers while being guided by our team.

During the practical training, students have access to a range of dogs to work with and are able to practice and perfect their skills in a safe environment. Students will develop a broad array of hands-on skills pivotal for training including teaching the foundation skills and also dealing with aggressive dogs.They will learn about conditioning dogs, behaviour shaping, lifestyle obedience and positivereinforcement. Finally the students will then be taught how to create both individual and group lessons ,whilst assessing the needs of the dogs and the owners.

  • 21st October - 1st November
Please note - We can only run practical classes with a minimum of 6 students. Please confirm with the team before booking accommodation or flights.
Course Fees
The full fee for the course fee is $6,000.

Students have a choice of payment options that best suit their financial circumstances:

Payment Plans

For your convenience the Pet Stylist Academy offers two interest free payment plans, choose the one that best suits your lifestyle:
  • Direct Debit Option - $39 per week (36 months) - $46.50 per week (30 months) - $58 per week (24 months) - $78 per week (18 months) - $116 per week (12 months)
  • Installment Option - Pay in four (4) installments: 1st installment $1500 enrolment fee plus 3 x $1500 installments

Australian students may also be able to access government assistance through one of the following programs:
  • Youth Allowance (for students aged 16–24 years)
  • Austudy (for students aged over 25 years) 
  • ABSTUDY (for Indigenous or Torres Strait Islander students)
