Students concentrate on basic grooming of cats, including brushing, combing, clipping nails, bathing, restraints, handling, drying techniques, clippering and scissor finishing techniques as well as proper pattern setting for various cat breeds.
Emphasis is placed on perfecting cat grooming skills while , increasing speed and efficiency while developing maximum grooming potential. The bulk of this training program is spent practicing and perfecting skills with pets under the guidance of trainers in the Pet Stylist Academy training centre.
The curriculum has been designed to ensure that the students perform in a skillful, responsible, and professional manner and that their scope of knowledge creates highly qualified professionals. Under the direction and instruction of seasoned professionals, students acquire the techniques and skills necessary for competence in the field of professional cat grooming and styling. Practical grooming applications and handling techniques are complemented by a structured self-study program. These elements are the foundation of the course.
Fundamental to the method of instruction and content of the training is the student’s capacity for growth. We realise that cat grooming is an art that requires both talent and training.

Cat Breeds and Coat Types
Cat Behaviour and Handling
Diseases and Infection control
Bathing and Drying different coat types
Scissoring, also use of thinning shears
Clipping, using clippers, maintenance, using snap on combs and being able to apply on different coat lengths
Perform cat grooming on different breeds and coat types
The prerequisite units of competency for this course are:
ACMCAS306 Provide grooming services for companion animal comfort
ACMCAS307 Provide companion animal hydro-bathing services
ACMSPE305 Provide basic care of domestic cats
ACMGRM405 Carry out styling on cats of different breeds and coat types
